What is Roadcheck Week (aka DOT Blitz Week)?

Every May, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) leads International Roadcheck, which is a 72-hour, high-visibility enforcement initiative where inspectors across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico conduct intensified roadside safety checks on commercial trucks and drivers to enforce compliance with federal safety regulations.

What it means for carriers

During Blitz Week, carriers face heightened inspections that check everything from driver credentials and hours-of-service logs to vehicle brakes, tires and cargo securement. Vehicles or drivers found in violation are placed out of service until issues are resolved, which can take them off the road. Many drivers and carriers choose to idle or avoid the road during the blitz to mitigate risk, tightening available capacity.

What it means for brokers

With reduced truck availability and stricter roadside checks, brokers often encounter capacity declines and increased difficulty securing equipment during the blitz. Spot market rates have historically spiked as supply tightens and demand continues.

What it means for shippers

Shippers can see ripple effects through their supply chains including higher freight rates, delivery delays, and fewer carriers available for short-notice moves. Locking capacity early and vetting carriers will help lessen disruptions.
