Employee Appreciation Day 2022: Fostering a Culture of Gratitude

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- Employee Appreciation Day is a day where companies around the world appreciate employees for all they do to contribute and grow the organization. Although this holiday is celebrated on one day during the year, great company cultures start with recognizing and appreciating employees all year long.

Some companies choose to celebrate during the day, week, or for the entire month. This year, Employee Appreciation Day falls on Friday, March 4th and is a great way to thank every employee by creating experiences that showcase gratitude.

Throughout the pandemic, and over the last 3 years, employees around the globe have had to work harder than ever before under unexpected circumstances. Transitioning to the new normal, employees have adapted to hybrid work models and remote work to maintain organizations and communities as top priorities. Through challenges, employers need to show that they care and appreciate their employees.

Showing individuals that they are valued increases employee engagement, rises retention rates and encourages a healthy company culture. According to the 2022 Global Culture Report when employees feel appreciated, the chance they will experience burnout goes down by 84%. When companies celebrate, employees are 20x more likely to feel connected and desire to stay with the company.

Appreciation Begins with Culture

Recognizing and showing appreciation begins with company culture. The act of appreciation builds relationships with peers and leaders, helps employees feel connected to purpose, and creates a positive environment for individuals in the workplace.

Encourage Appreciation Across the Workplace

Appreciation in a work environment goes far and acknowledging fellow coworkers across the workplace is extremely important. One of the best components of gratitude is when individuals begin to grow their trust for others – known as the spillover effect. As gratitude increases in the workplace, so does happiness.

Everyone desires to feel valued and appreciated. It is one of the deepest and most basic human needs. With leadership leading the charge, each person should be recognized for their personal efforts. This builds an environment throughout the entire company where employees feel empowered.
